Chamber to Present Training on Prevention of Human Trafficking

December 19, 2018

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., December 19, 2018  -  Jen Falcone, LCSW, director of Businesses Against Human Trafficking, will give a training session on the risks of human trafficking to businesses on January 25, 2019 from 8:30- 10 a.m. at the MGM Training Room, 95 State Street, Springfield. The training session is presented in partnership with the Springfield Regional Chamber.

Participants in the training will learn how to recognize signs of human trafficking, which involves sexual exploitation and also forced labor. Human traffickers and buyers use business premises, products and services to facilitate the sale of women and children and 12.7% of callers responding to decoy ads originated from local businesses. The peak time that people are searching for sex online is 2 p.m., and 24% of buyers admitted to paying for sexual acts while traveling for business.

The January 25 training will also teach business owners to be aware of the risks of human trafficking to their business. Those risks include brand devaluation, increased legal and financial risks, and a potentially hostile work environment.

Businesses Against Human Trafficking is a coalition of area businesses and organizations committed to raising awareness of human trafficking and to protecting against its occurrence in places of business.  Members who have pledged their corporate support include the Springfield Regional Chamber, Sheraton Springfield, Springfield/Worcester Hilton Garden Inns, Hampton Inn and Suites Springfield, Red Roof Inn in West Springfield, Square One, East of the River Five Town Chamber of Commerce, Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau and Springfield Redevelopment Authority.

Registration for the training is $10 and includes complimentary parking and a certificate upon successful completion. Registration may be made online at or by emailing
