Head of Table Talk Pies to Keynote Chamber Breakfast

October 11, 2017

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 6, 2017 –  Harry Kokkinis, owner of Table Talk Pies in Worcester, will be the keynote speaker at the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce  Business@Breakfast on November 1. The event will be held at The Colony Club, 1500 Main Street, Springfield from 7:15- 9 a.m., sponsored by TD Bank and United Personnel with coffee compliments of Bright Nights.

The Kokkinis family began selling pies out of the back of a horse cart in 1924. The family business continued until the company was sold in the 1980s. A series of ownership changes and poor corporate management resulted in the closing of the Table Talk Pie factory in1984.

Kokkinis’ father Christo Cocaine (an Americanized version of the family name) bought back the company assets a year later and shifted the Table Talk Pie strategy to dominating the snack market. Today, supermarket aisles are filled with 4-inch snack-sized Table Talk pies in a variety of standard and season flavors. The company then took the next step and returned to making 8-inch pies. The company now bakes three million 4-inch pies and close to 500,000 8-ich pies a week in addition to private label pies.

In the years since Table Talk Pies was saved, it has positioned itself for explosive growth, building a new 50,000 square-foot factory and bringing back its iconic retail store, both in Worcester, where the company is headquartered. It had been 20 years since Table Talk operated a retail store.

Table Talk’s 8-inch salted caramel apple and 4-inch pecan pies recently won the company two National Pie Championship awards, and earlier this year Kokkinis accepted a “Business of the Year” award from the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Kokkinis will tell Table Talk’s comeback story - how the company returned to its roots, expanded, and become part of Worcester’s renaissance.

In addition, the Chamber will recognize Christine Maiwald as the new Executive Director of Unify Against Bullying.

Business@Breakfast is a monthly series, which pays tribute to individuals, businesses and organizations for major contributions to civic and economic growth and for actions which reflect honor on the region.
