Paid Family Medical Leave Focus of Multi-Chamber Lunch n Learn

April 8, 2019

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., April 9, 2019 -  A detailed overview of a new law mandating paid family and medical leave (PFML) will be presented by Attorney Erica E. Flores and Attorney Amelia Holstrom at the Springfield Regional Chamber’s Lunch ‘n Learn on May 7 from 11:30-1:30 at the East Mountain Country Club, 1458 East Mountain Rd., Westfield. This event is in collaboration with the Greater Chicopee and Westfield Chambers, and the East of the River Five Town Chamber.

The Lunch ‘n Learn program is presented by Skoler Abbott & Presser P.C. and sponsored by BFP Associates.

Attorneys Flores and Holstrom will explain who is covered, how much time employees must be allowed and for what reasons, how PFML will be funded, the process of filing a claim, how it will interact with other leave-related laws and benefit programs, and how the law protects employees who take PFML.

Last summer, Governor Charlie Baker signed legislation instituting a mandatory paid family and medical leave program for employees, to be administered by a new Department of Family and Medical Leave.

The new Department has published proposed regulations for the administration and enforcement of the new law, and local businesses must begin making contributions to the PFML trust on July 1, 2019.

Reservations are $35 for Springfield Regional Chamber members and $50 for general admission. RSVP by April 30 at www.springfieldregionalchamber.com.

Sponsorship opportunities are available, including business/logo recognition in print and digital media outlets and a banner at the event. Email sullivan@springfieldregionalchamber.com for further information.
