Workplace Sexual Harassment Focus of Springfield Regional Chamber Lunch n Learn

December 12, 2017

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., December 12, 2017 –  The Springfield Regional Chamber will present “Workplace Sexual Harassment in the Wake of the Harvey Weinstein Scandal:  What Employers Need to Know to Protect Themselves,” a panel discussion with local legal, human resources, and public relations professionals. This Lunch ‘n Learn event will take place on January 11, 2018, from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at The Colony Club, 1500 Main Street, Springfield, and is sponsored by Skoler, Abbott & Presser, P.C.

Attorney Erica E. Flores, an associate at Skoler, Abbott & Presser, will lead the discussion. Attorney Flores will address how the Weinstein scandal and its continuing fallout are changing the legal environment for employers and ways employers and their boards can reduce their legal risk, including how to respond to sexual harassment complaints.

With more than 50 years of experience, Skoler, Abbott & Presser is one of the largest law firms in New England exclusively representing management and employers in the fields of labor relations and employment law.  Attorney Flores has successfully defended employers in single-plaintiff and class action discrimination, harassment and retaliation litigation, wage and hour litigation, and breach of contract litigation before state and federal courts and administrative agencies.

Karen M. Markham, Vice President of Operations and Administration at Rocky's ACE Hardware, will bring the insider’s perspective to the discussion, offering advice for human resources professionals when conducting internal investigations and considerations for protecting the interests of the business or organization.

Rocky’s is a privately-owned chain of 32 hardware stores with locations in six states. Markham has two decades of human resources experience and will bring a wealth of knowledge and insights to the panel.

In addition to the legal and human resources challenges that could face employers, sexual harassment claims can create potential public relations nightmares if complaints are not addressed quickly. The public relations team from Market Mentors, LLC, will round out the panel, providing their expertise about how to protect a company’s brand and the need for crisis communications when allegations are reported in the media.

Market Mentors, founded by Michelle Abdow, is a full-service marketing agency founded by with clients all over the country in a wide variety of industries including education, healthcare, banking, financial planning, insurance, law, manufacturing and industrial, nonprofit and retail.
